INTRODUCTION: Bioactive glass, an innovative alloplastic material utilizing a matrix of silica particles combined with calcium and phosphorus, has been widely employed for the regeneration of bony defects due to its bone-forming capabilities and biocompatibility. Nevertheless, it comes with several drawbacks, including a slow degradation rate, low mechanical strength, and susceptibility to fractures. To address these issues, the present research was done to develop and characterize a novel bioactive glass incorporating gadolinium (Gd) and copper (Cu). METHODS: The bioactive glass doped with Gd and Cu were synthesized and subjected to characterization through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and attenuated total reflectance-infrared (ATR-IR) analysis. RESULTS: The bioactive glass, enriched with Gd and Cu, underwent analysis using ATR-IR spectroscopy, XRD, and SEM. ATR-IR revealed characteristic silicate bands, while SEM indicated the presence of particles larger than 4 µm. XRD analysis identified the formation of Na2Ca4(PO4)2SiO4 (Silicorhenatite), Na2Ca2Si3O9 (Combeite), and wollastonite (calcium inosilicate mineral; CaSiO3). The crystalline nature of these compounds contributed to the favorable mechanical properties of the bioactive glass. CONCLUSION: In summary, the creation of the innovative Gd-Cu-incorporated bioactive glass demonstrates favorable mechanical characteristics, suggesting significant promise for augmenting bone regeneration.

Aim  The study was conducted to assess the clinical and patient-centered outcomes among the patients who had undergone nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT). Methodology The participants for this study were 40 individuals with generalized chronic periodontitis. Numerous clinical parameters including clinical attachment level (CAL), probing pocket depth (PPD), plaque index (PI), and gingival index (GI) were evaluated along with the administration of a customized questionnaire before and after three months of therapy to evaluate patient-centered outcomes. Results Clinical parameters showed significant (p < 0.05) improvement post-NSPT. There was 100% satisfaction in few patient-centered outcomes such as bleeding gums, bad breath, food entrapment, and mobility. Conclusion A significant improvement in the clinical parameters does not guarantee improvement in patient-centered outcomes. Achieving the improvement in patient-centered outcomes can improve the overall quality of life (QOL), marking this a holistic treatment.

INTRODUCTION: In the contemporary perspective, periodontitis is considered a complex issue triggered and perpetuated by bacteria but strongly influenced by the way the body reacts to bacterial plaque. Recent research has indicated that variations in genes might have an impact on the development of periodontitis. This study was conducted to explore a probable link between the genetic variations in intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) represented by rs5498 and the occurrence of periodontitis.  Methods: A total of 100 participants, 50 with periodontitis and 50 with periodontally healthy or mild gingivitis, were recruited for this study. Whole blood drawn from the participants was used to obtain genomic DNA. The ICAM-1 gene polymorphism (rs5498) was determined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and digestion. The ICAM-1 gene's flanking primers were used to amp up the DNA. For statistical analysis, the genotype that was analyzed using the pattern of restriction fragment length polymorphism was recorded. The Chi-square test compared genotype and allele frequency distributions between both groups. The odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals with each individual allele or genotype was used to compute the risk. Statistical significance was established in all tests when the p-value was less than 0.05. RESULTS:  There was no discernible difference between the genotype frequencies of patients and controls χ2df (P = 0.6065). The findings demonstrated that no significant difference was present between the two groups for homozygous or heterozygous mutant genotypes (AA vs. AG+GG; P = 0.6854). There was no discernible difference in the detected frequencies of the A allele (58% vs. 61%), G allele (42% vs. 39%), TT (16% vs. 24%), AG (40% vs. 36%), and TT genotypes in the studied groups. CONCLUSION: According to the results of the current investigation, the ICAM-1 (rs5498) gene polymorphism is not associated with periodontitis in the population investigated.

Peri-implant disease pathogenesis is similar to periodontal disease pathogenesis resulting in production of pro-inflammatory mediators. These mediators alter the redox balance leading to decrease in antioxidants, among which catalase is one of the enzymatic antioxidants. The aim of the study was to compare the levels of catalase in peri-implant health and disease. The present observational study was carried out from June 2022 to December 2022 in the Department of Implantology, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, India. A total of 60 patients with peri-implant health (Group 1; n = 20), peri-implant mucositis (Group 2; n = 20) and peri-implantitis (Group 3; n = 20) were enrolled. Unstimulated salivary samples were collected and subjected to ELISA for catalase analysis. Catalase levels were then compared between the groups using ANOVA. The mean catalase level in peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis, peri-implanti-tis were 25.07 ± 0.44 U/mL, 18.5 6 ± 0.65 U/mL, and 11.25 ± 0.76 U/mL respectively. The difference between the three groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Catalase level decreases with severity of peri-implant diseases. Therefore, catalase can be used as a diagnostic marker for peri-implant diseases.

Inflammation that occur as a part of body's response to implant-tissue contact can result in oxidative stress. Therefore, exploring the oxidative stress around different surface treated dental implants is essential to improve the performance of implants. The purpose of this study was to detect and measure the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), oxidative stress marker among patients with sandblasted acid-etched and anodized surface dental implants. In this prospective clinical study, 78 patients who had undergone implant placement for missing single posterior tooth in mandible using sandblasted acid-etched and anodized surface dental implants during August 2019 - December 2019 were enrolled according to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria and were categorized into Group 1: SLA (n = 27), Group 2: SLActive (n = 26), Group 3: TiUnite (n = 25) based on the surface modification of the implants. Peri-implant crevicular fluid (PICF) was collected and MDA was quantified using ELISA kit at 3 months and 1 year. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey's HSD post hoc. For intragroup comparison, paired t-test was used. MDA levels in group 3 implants was significantly higher than groups 1 and 2 (P ≤ 0.05). On pairwise comparison, there was a statistically significant difference between the groups at baseline (P ≤ 0.05) and 1-year follow-up (P ≤ 0.05). Intragroup comparison showed that there was a statistically significant difference from baseline in all the three groups (P ≤ 0.05). MDA level in peri-implant crevicular fluid was high around TiUnite dental implant as compared to SLA and SLActive implants.

Peri-implant disease pathogenesis results in production of pro-inflammatory mediators, among which C-reactive protein (CRP) is one of the acute phase reactants. The aim of the study was to comparative CRP levels among peri-implant health and disease conditions. The present study was carried out in the Department of Implantology, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, India. A total of 40 patients with peri-implant health (n = 10), peri-mucositis (n = 10), early peri-implantitis (n = 10) and advanced peri-implantitis (n = 10) were enrolled. Unstimulated salivary samples were collected and subjected to latex agglutination assay for CRP analysis. CRP levels were then correlated with peri-implant health and diseases. CRP level in peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis, early peri-implantitis and advanced peri-implantitis were 0.18 ± 0.04 mg/dL, 2.05 ± 0.61 mg/dL, 4.14 ± 1.82 mg/dL and 6.21 ± 1.35 mg/dL respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in CRP levels between all the tested groups (ANOVA, P = 0.03). Pearson correlation coefficient analysis revealed a strong positive correlation between CRP and peri-implant health status. CRP level was high among patients with peri-implantitis followed by peri-implant mucositis and peri-implant health. Also, CRP level increases with severity of peri-implant diseases and there exists a positive correlation between CRP level and peri-implant health status.

Immediate function has become an accepted treatment modality for fixed restorations in completely edentulous jaws. The dental implants have gained immense popularity. A secure implant primary stability is positively associated with a successful implant integration and long term successful clinical outcome. The main aim of this study was to find the association between primary stability and bone density in implants placed in maxilla and mandible. A total of 1263 patients who had undergone implant placement from March 2020-March 2021 in Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, India were chosen for the study. The primary stability and bone density of these patients were collected from the hospital records. The collected data was compiled, reviewed, tabulated in Microsoft Excel sheet and entered in SPSS software for statistical analysis. In the present study, the patient aged between 28 and 37 years had undergone more implant placement (31%) with male predilection (53%). The most commonly associated primary stability was found to be 30-40 Ncm (51.37%) predominantly with D2 type of bone density (52.69%). A Chi-squared statistical test was done for primary stability and bone density and the P was found to be 0.00 (Chi-squared P < 0.05, statistically significant). The most predominant bone density was D2 associated with primary stability of 30-40 Ncm. The association between bone density and primary stability was found to be statistically significant. The present study shows a strong relationship between bone density and primary implant stability.

Mechanical plaque control is the first line of management of peri-implant diseases. Povidone iodine is one of the broad spectrum and potent antiseptics available at various concentrations. The aim of the study was to assess and compare the efficacy of various concentrations of povidone iodine in the management of peri-implant mucositis. In the present double blinded, parallel designed, randomized clinical trial, a total of 60 patients with peri-implant mucositis (20 participants in each group [Group 1 (povidone iodine 0.1%), Group 2 (povidone iodine 2%) and Group 3 (povidone iodine 010%)] were enrolled. Scaling and root planing was done and then the peri-implant sulcus was irrigated with respective irrigant and repeated once in a week for 4 weeks. Loe and Silness Gingival Index (GI) and Mombelli Modified sulcular bleeding index (BI) were recorded at baseline and after a month and compared. Statistical analysis was done using One-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD post hoc test. A statistically significant difference (P = 0.000) observed between the three concentrations when compared after 1 month. Also, a statistically significant difference between Group 1 and Group 3 and Group 2 and Group 3 was observed in terms of post GI (P = 0.000) and post BI (P = 0.000) but statistically no significant difference was observed between Group 1 and Group 2 in terms of post GI (P = 0.171) and post BI (P = 0.338). The 2% and 10% povidone iodine showed significant improvement in gingival index and bleeding index and hence it could be an effective adjunct to scaling and root planing in the management of peri-implant mucositis.

The aim of the study was to correlate the levels of CRP with the severity of peri-implant diseases. The present observational study was carried out from June 2022 to December 2022 in the Department of Implantology, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, India. A total of 60 patients with peri-implant health (n = 20), peri-mucositis (n = 20) and peri-implantitis (n = 20) were enrolled. Unstimulated salivary samples were collected and subjected to latex agglutination assay for CRP analysis. CRP levels were then correlated with severity of peri-implant diseases. The mean CRP level in peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis, peri-implantitis were 0.25 ± 0.36 mg/dl, 3.56 ± 0.85 mg/dl and 5.07 ± 0.74 mg/dl, respectively. Pearson correlation coefficient analysis revealed a strong positive correlation between CRP and peri-implant parameters suggesting that the CRP level increased as the severity of peri-implant disease increased. CRP level increases with severity of peri-implant diseases and there exists a positive correlation between CRP level and peri-implant parameters. Therefore, CRP can be used as a diagnostic marker for peri-implant diseases.

Implant therapy is gaining immense importance in people presenting with missing teeth due to its increased life expectancy. There is a high concern regarding the link between obesity and peri-implant diseases. The aim of this study was to assess the peri-implant health parameters among the obese and non-obese South Indian population. The cross-sectional study was conducted in Department of Implantology, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals Chennai, India among 859 patients who reported between January 2022-November 2022 and had a minimum of single implant in function for at least 1 year after crown cementation. Among 859 patients, 428 were non-obese (Group A) and 431 were obese (Group B). Patient's data including the menopausal status was recorded. Clinical parameters including peri-implant probing depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL) and radiographic parameter including alveolar bone level (ABL) was recorded and compared between both the groups using independent t-test. The mean PPD among non-obese and obese population were 2.58 ± 0.03 and 4.09 ± 0.04, respectively. The mean CAL among non-obese and obese population were 2.87 ± 0.02 and 4.19 ± 0.01, respectively. The mean ABL among non-obese and obese population were 2.06 ± 0.01 and 3.17 ± 0.03, respectively. Independent t-test revealed there was statistically significant difference in PPD (P = 0.04), CAL (P = 0.05) and ABL (P = 0.04). The present study suggests that the obese individuals demonstrated high peri-implant probing depth, clinical attachment loss and alveolar bone loss as compared to non-obese individuals.

The success of dental implants is affected by bone quality and quantity at the dental implant site. The present study was done to assess the changes in alveolar bone level around osseointegrated dental implants over a period of 2 years among the premenopausal and postmenopausal women. This prospective clinical study was conducted among 50 female patients who reported between January 2020-June 2020 and had a single missing molar in maxillary or mandibular arch. Patients were categorized into 2 groups: premenopause patients (Group A; n = 25) and postmenopause patients (Group B; n = 25). Marginal bone loss (MBL) was recorded at baseline, 12 mo and 24 mo follow-up and compared between both the groups using independent t-test. ANOVA was done to compare MBL between different time periods. On intragroup comparison, a statistically significant difference was observed between different time periods in both Group A (P = 0.05) and Group B (P = 0.04). Also, on intergroup comparison, a statistically significant difference was observed in Group B from Group A at 12 mo and 24 mo (P < 0.05). Increase in marginal bone loss was observed among postmenopausal women. Therefore, clinicians should emphasize the need for oral hygiene maintenance among postmenopausal women for peri-implant health.

Peri-implant mucosistis is similar to gingivitis, the former affects the mucosa around implants without bone loss. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of ozonated olive oil gel in the management of peri-implant mucositis. A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted among 50 patients with peri-implant mucositis within the age group of 25-50 years. They were randomly divided into two groups with 25 participants in each group based on the intervention [Group A (Ozonated olive oil gel), Group B (Chlorhexidine gel)]. Silness and Loe plaque index (PI) and Loe and Silness gingival index (GI) were recorded at baseline and after 4 weeks. Paired t-test and independent t-test was used to test the significance. Within the groups, there was a statistically significant reduction in PI and GI from baseline (P < 0.05). However, the difference in PI and GI between both the groups was statistically insignificant (P > 0.05). Ozonated olive oil gel was equally effective to chlorhexidine gel in the management of peri-implant mucositis.

Aim Oxygen-enriched mouthwash products are based on oral topical oxygen therapy (OOT), which supports the formation of new blood vessels and the removal of toxins and waste products from the affected area and stimulates the synthesis of collagen. These antioxidant mouthwashes contain honey, lactoferrin, and sodium carbonate peroxide. Lactoferrin is an anti-inflammatory protein that binds the ferrous iron ions surrounding micro-organisms regulating bacterial growth. Hence, these products can be included as an adjunct to toothbrushing after oral surgeries and in the treatment of conditions like gingival inflammation and peri-implantitis. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of oxygen-enriched mouthwash as a pre-procedural mouth rinse against oral microbes in the aerosol produced during ultrasonic scaling. Materials and methods A total of 40 patients with an age range of 20-40 years who have been advised to undergo ultrasonic scaling were selected as study subjects and were randomly allocated to group 1 (test group; n = 20; blue®m mouthwash) and group 2 (control group; n = 20; chlorhexidine). After evaluating the initial bacterial load after the use of water (placebo) as pre-rinse on the patient's chest and shoulder areas in both experimental and control groups, both the group subjects were instructed to gargle with 10 ml of the provided mouth rinse for one minute before ultrasonic scaling procedure. Blood agar plates were placed at the patient's chest and shoulder area to collect the aerosol and were later incubated to assess the colony-forming units (CFUs). An independent t-test was done to compare the CFUs between the groups. Results The mean initial bacterial load after the use of water (placebo) as pre-rinse on the patients' chest area (122.4 ± 0.6) and shoulder area (109.3 ± 2.6) in the experimental group was similar to the bacterial load seen on the chest area (126.2 ± 4.8) and shoulder area (115.4 ± 3.8) in the control group. The CFUs found in blood agar plates placed on the chest (59.8 ± 2.5) and shoulder (35.3 ± 3.6) areas of patients in group 1 were less as compared to CFUs found in blood agar plates placed on the chest (104.8 ± 3.2) and shoulder (75.3 ± 2.8) areas of patients in group 2. The difference between both groups was statistically significant with a p-value of ≤0.05. Conclusion There is a reduction in the bacterial load in the aerosols that are emitted during the ultrasonic scaling procedure with the use of oxygen-enriched mouthwash as a pre-procedural rinse when compared with chlorhexidine.

Aim Periodontal dressings play a crucial role in periodontal surgery and dental procedures. These dressings have several functions and benefits, similar to surgical wound dressings used in other surgical contexts. Periodontal dressings protect the surgical site and control bleeding in the oral cavity as they exert pressure on tissue and blood vessels. By protecting the wound and stabilizing the tissues, periodontal dressings create an environment that encourages proper and faster healing. Recently, the use of periodontal pack has reported various postoperative discomfort to the patients. This led to the development of an interest in considering fenugreek as an alternative to periodontal dressing as it possesses various antidiabetic and hypolipidemic effects. Thus, fenugreek can be used as an alternative to periodontal dressing. The study aimed to prepare and evaluate the antimicrobial nature of fenugreek gel in oral microbes and the anti-inflammatory properties of gel with protein coagulation in egg albumin. Materials and methods The fenugreek gel preparation was done by grinding 100 g of fenugreek seeds into a powder and adding 100 ml of distilled water to the powder and then heating the mixture at 70°C for 30 minutes. Five milliliters of the fenugreek concentrate were added to an equal mixture of carboxymethyl cellulose and Carbopol which was mixed thoroughly to form a gel. The antimicrobial nature of fenugreek has been evaluated in various organisms such as Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Candida albicans whereas the anti-inflammatory property was evaluated by protein coagulation method in egg albumin. Results The results stated that the fenugreek gel at a concentration of 100 µg/ml showed a greater zone of inhibition (5.39 ± 0.05) compared with doxycycline (1.1 ± 0.08) for a high antimicrobial potential against all oral microbes. The anti-inflammatory activity of the gel by protein coagulation method in egg albumin showed greater inhibition (67.15±1.36) at 100 µg/ml of fenugreek extract when compared with aspirin (64.43±2.93). Paired t-test was done for both the properties and the p-value was less than 0.5 stating that the difference between the groups was statistically significant. Conclusion The present study showed that the fenugreek gel possesses higher antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties when compared with doxycycline and aspirin, respectively. Hence, fenugreek gel can be used as an alternative periodontal dressing to reduce postoperative inflammation.

BACKGROUND: Gingivitis is frequently painless, rarely causes spontaneous bleeding and is manifested by minor clinical changes. Therefore, most patients are unaware of the disease or do not seek treatment, as it is asymptomatic. Several methods for removing microbial plaque have been proposed, including mechanical and chemical ones. Amla or Indian gooseberry is a medicinal herb; its secondary metabolites, such as phenolic acid, flavonoids and terpenoids, can be used to preferentially reduce metal ions and form nanoparticles (NPs). Green synthesis with the use of the amla seed extract is a unique approach for the production of graphene oxide (GO)-silver (Ag) nanocomposite mouthwash. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to prepare an amla seed-mediated GO-Ag nanocomposite mouthwash, and to assess its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory efficacy in plaque-induced gingivitis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The present double-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted among 30 gingivitis patients. The patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups based on the intervention: group A (n = 15; nanocomposite mouthwash); and group B - control (n = 15; 0.2% chlorhexidine (CHX) mouthwash). Clinical parameters, including the plaque index (PI), the gingival index (GI), a microbiological parameter - colony forming units (CFUs), and a biochemical parameter - the C-reactive protein (CRP) level in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), were assessed at baseline and at 15 days. RESULTS: The study results showed statistically significant differences in the mean PI and GI scores, and the CRP levels in the post-intervention period as compared to baseline in both groups. After the intervention period of 15 days, there were statistically significant differences between the 2 study groups in terms of mean PI and GI scores, and CRP levels. CONCLUSIONS: The amla seed-mediated GO-Ag nanocomposite mouthwash efficiently reduced plaque, gingival inflammation and CFUs among patients with plaque-induced gingivitis, but was not equivalent to the CHX mouthwash.

It is of interest to prepare and evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of a novel Clitoria ternatea and Matricaria chamomilla infused mouthwash. The floral extract using the two flowers in dried form was prepared in concentrations of 10µL, 20µL, 30µL, 40µL and 50µL. To assess the antioxidant activity, DPPH assay was done with L-ascorbic acid as the control agent. The anti-inflammatory activity of the floral extract was assessed by the Albumin Denaturation Assay for which diclofenac sodium was used. The absorbance value of the floral extract was determined for each of the concentrations for the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. After 50 µL the prepared extract began to show close absorbance values compared to the standard solutions; at this concentration, the mouthwash was prepared. The preparation and evaluation of the floral extract of Clitoria ternatea and Matricaria chamomilla infused mouthwash shows promising anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can be used as an adjunct in oral hygiene practices to reduce gingival inflammation. Further clinical studies using the prepared mouthwash are needed to test its efficacy.

This systematic review assesses the microbiological similarities and differences between healthy and diseased peri-implant sulci based on available literature evidence. A thorough electronic search was conducted in databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane; a manual search employing eligibility criteria was conducted as well. After a comprehensive review, studies evaluating the microbial profile obtained from biofilm samples from healthy and diseased peri-implant sulci were chosen. Ten articles compared microbial profiles of healthy and failing implants. A statistically significant variation in the microbial profile was observed, with predominating Gram-negative, anaerobic organisms at both the genus and species level between healthy and diseased peri-implant sulci. Also, red complex organisms (P. gingivalis, T. forsythia, and P. intermedia) predominated in diseased peri-implant sulci. According to existing studies, peri-implantitis is characterized by a diverse microbial community that includes obligate anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria such as T. denticola, T. forsythia, P. gingivalis, and P. intermedia. This research will pave the way for further studies assessing specific bacterial flora in diseased peri-implant sulci, which will help in developing specific treatment targets for peri-implantitis.

Exploring variations in the oral microbiome that predict the early stages of oral diseases could lead to more accurate diagnosis and therapy before the disease manifests clinically. This study compared the bacterial profile around prosthesis on natural teeth and implants in a healthy oral cavity. Fifteen participants with prosthesis on natural teeth and 15 participants with implants were recruited. All participants were periodontally healthy. Plaque samples were collected and then subjected to PCR amplification with 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Using the BlastN program, the sequenced data were compared to reference bacterial gene sequences in the Human Oral Microbiome Database. Finally, bacterial species in both groups' samples were identified, and a phylogenetic tree was created to compare the bacterial profile around prosthesis on natural teeth and implants. Microorganisms identified were Streptococcus, Fusobacterium, Corynebacterium, Micrococcus, Aeromonas, Leptotrichia, and Dechloromonas species; around implants were Streptococcus, Fusobacterium, Corynebacterium, Prevotella, Eikenella, Nisseria, Rothia, Aeromonas, Leptotrichia, and Actinomyces species. On comparing the bacterial profile around prosthesis on natural teeth and implants in periodontally healthy individuals, pathogenic bacterial species including Fusobacterium nucleatum, Prevotella intermedia, and Eikenella corrodens were identified around implants.

Background: Visfatin is an inflammatory adipokine that has been linked to obesity and plays a key function in immune response modulation. It's also been proposed that it's a pro-inflammatory marker for periodontitis. Hence, the aim of the present study was to assess the salivary Visfatin levels in obese and non-obese population and correlate with the periodontal status. Materials and methods: A total of 40 individuals aged between 21 and 35 years (Group 1: n = 20, non-obese and Group 2: n = 20, obese) were enrolled in this case-control study. Clinical parameters such as periodontal probing depth (PPD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded. Body Mass Index (BMI) was recorded. Unstimulated salivary samples were collected and the samples were assayed for Visfatin using human Visfatin ELISA kit. The results were analysed using SPSS Software, Version 23.0. Unpaired t-test and Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the clinical parameters and salivary Visfatin level between both the groups. Also, Spearman's rank correlation test was done for correlation of BMI with salivary Visfatin levels and clinical parameters. Results: The salivary Visfatin level was higher in group 2 (33.1070 ± 0.81 ng/mL) as compared to group 1 (22.2310 ± 1.33 ng/mL). Moderate positive statistically significant association was found between BMI and Visfatin (r = 0.738, p = 0.000). Also when Visfatin and PPD and CAL were correlated, moderate positive statistically significant association was found (r = 0.625, p = 0.000 and r = 0.630, p = 0.000). Conclusion: The present study suggests that there exists a positive correlation between BMI and salivary Visfatin and BMI and periodontal parameters including probing depth and clinical attachment level. This illustrates that salivary Visfatin may be a potential marker for periodontal inflammation in obese population.
